Add Open Island Shelving for Stylish Storage
When space is limited — or when cookware is abundant — extra storage always saves the day. In this kitchen, Jonathan and Drew added not just an expansive island, but an expansive island complete with ample below-the-countertop open shelving. (They filled the shelves with pretty blue bakeware. It's functional and stylish.)

Switch Up the Small Stuff
Small updates make a big difference. The bros amped up the contrast in this California kitchen with matte black lights and woven black bar stools. Now the whole space boasts refined, farmhouse flair.

Go All Out With a Marble Waterfall Island
If you've got a decent budget to spend, consider a waterfall island — the stone on either side of the island will protect your cabinetry. Here, the Scott brothers went with minimalist-yet-luxe marble that complements the matte black hardware.

Mix Metals
Once upon a time, the idea of mixing metals was nothing short of gauche. Nowadays, it's the secret to creating an eclectic space, especially in the kitchen. Here, Jonathan and Drew used matte black drawer pulls, brushed-nickel cabinet knobs and hammered-brass light fixtures for a mixed-metal masterpiece.

Elevate a Neutral Color Palette With Brass Hardware
Jonathan and Drew knew what they were doing when it came to the hardware in this traditional kitchen. Shimmering brass cabinet and drawer pulls subtly elevate the gray-and-white space, making it (literally) shine.

Pick a Bold Cabinet Color
This bright, emerald kitchen is serving up serious inspiration for color lovers. To go bold while maintaining a sleek and modern look, Jonathan and Drew kept the countertops, backsplash and appliances classic.

Or, Go For a More Muted Cabinet Color
You can have color without going super bold. Take this traditional kitchen by Jonathan and Drew, for example. Powder-blue cabinets still make a statement, but the muted hue adds a calming ambiance to the space. The bros rounded out the look with hanging brass lights and leather barstools.

Consider Two-Toned Cabinets
It's a myth that all the cabinets in a kitchen have to be the same color. Case in point: This beautiful renovation by the Scott brothers features black cabinets under the island and around the refrigerator, and white cabinets against the adjacent wall.

Add Ceiling Beams
Whether you have a flat ceiling or an angled one, beams can instantly make a space feel homey. The best part: You don't even need to splurge on real wood. The bros often use faux-wood beams.
Or, Look Into a Ceiling Trellis
If you love the idea of a unique ceiling, but don't want to take the rustic wood beam route, try a trellis. Here, the Scott brothers hung wood slats above an expansive island to create a sleek, yet warm kitchen. Come the holidays, you can even decorate your trellis with twinkle lights or garland.
Stick to a Color Palette, But Switch Up the Patterns
If you're looking for ways to bring color into your kitchen without slapping a solid coat of paint across every cabinet, take this page out of the bros' book. They implemented a blue-and-white palette featuring various patterns to create a cohesive design. Instead of overloading the space, the color-coordinated patterns add depth.

Install a Backsplash Behind the Stove
Maybe you like pattern but not too much pattern. Easy: Start small. Here, Jonathan and Drew installed a vibrant, blue-and-white tile backsplash behind the stovetop and painted the island a matching shade of navy. These touches give the otherwise neutral kitchen a burst of color.

Lay Down a Runner
It's the easiest trick in the book. This green kitchen has suave, retro-modern appeal, but without that abstract runner Jonathan and Drew added between the island and the sink, the space might not feel quite as cozy as it does now.

Display Florals
Another easy trick: flowers. Bring color into a neutral kitchen or simply brighten up your space with flowers from your local farmers market. Stretch your creativity with fun vases or a unique arrangement of your own making.
Layer Natural Materials
Here, Jonathan and Drew created a warm kitchen by pairing a natural wood island with caramel-and-white quartz countertops. The mellow space also boasts open wood shelving and brass cabinet pulls. Talk about unique.

Incorporate Appliances Into Your Island
Jonathan and Drew outfitted this one with a microwave and a wine cooler (not to mention plenty of drawers for storage). This little trick frees up precious counter space and creates more room for cabinets.
Opt for a Square Island
Here's another island idea. Depending on the size and layout of your kitchen, a rectangular island might not be your best option. Instead of letting your island dreams drift away, go with a square shape like Jonathan and Drew did here. This one features a combination of seating, storage and appliances, not to mention ample counter space.

Make It Parent (and Kid) Friendly
Kitchens are normally designed, not for the kids, but for the parents. In this fun remodel by the Scott brothers, however, it's the best of both worlds. The space features a chalk wall for kids and a wine fridge for parents.
Go Monochromatic
Create a moody space like the bros. They went with a gray-black color palette, complete with matte black hardware, black hanging lights, black industrial stools and slate-gray cabinets. A butcher-block countertop and a white backsplash balance out all the dark.

Embrace an Earthy Aesthetic
Paring wood cabinets and wood floors together won't wash out your kitchen, we promise. Just look at this warm, wood-drenched space. Jonathan and Drew topped the look off with white quartz countertops, a white backsplash and recessed lighting to create a simple, bright and inviting design.
