Nautical and Natural
The Pacific blue paint Jonathan Scott chose for this serene space, featured on Brother vs. Brother , is anything but gloomy, thanks to the crisp white he used to accentuate the crown molding. A live-edge console table and driftwood accent piece above the headboard add organic notes to the room, while indigo-dyed shibori linens let its primary hues soak into one another.
All-New Heirloom
When it comes to upcycling pieces from salvaged material, Erin and Ben Napier of Home Town are a dream team: they designed a magnificent new headboard with a carved mahogany door frame and wood from an old shed on their clients' property. Soft blue paint and linens complement the bed’s panels, and a pair of distressed nightstands double down on the room’s antiques-with-modern-chic theme.
Harmonious Tones
Though Erin Napier layered more than half a dozen patterns on this bed, the effect is soothing rather than jarring: ecru, cream and celadon recur to add interest instead of competing with one another. Along similar lines, the nightstands and table lamps don’t match — but they tell the same story.
Contemporary Country
Fixer Upper 's Joanna Gaines put a 21st-century spin on shiplap by creating a matte black feature wall to offset pale wood furnishings and a creamy area rug. Swag pendants with Edison bulbs cast a warm glow on the dramatic paint, and a crisp fan and a subtle geometric pattern on the bedspread draw her accent hue into the room.
Garden Suite
To reimagine this master bedroom, Joanna and Chip Gaines revealed the character that had been there all along. They uncovered knotted pine beams in the ceiling and original shiplap on the walls, then threw new curtains open wide to expose lush views of the outdoors. Sage-green linens and a delicate new chandelier complete the space.
Bachelor's Boudoir
To create a masculine space, Joanna Gaines reached for modern and industrial furnishings that draw on the dark tone in the floorboards. Crisp contrasts in the linens and trim complete this gentleman’s retreat.
Love Nest
In Drew's Honeymoon House , Linda Phan revealed that she and Drew Scott had two words in mind for their own bedroom: "sexy and cool." Mission accomplished, as this master suite’s moody tones and luxurious finishes are as romantic and stylish as the duo that pulled them together.
LA Story
Drew Scott and Linda Phan reimagined their guest bedroom as a tribute to the golden age of cinema, with tailored upholstery and Art Deco details that evoke southern California’s regal movie palaces. What visitor would want to leave after star treatment like this?
Monochromatic Magic
Leanne Ford of Restored by the Fords brought drama to this Pittsburgh space by carrying velvety black paint up the wall and across the ceiling behind the bed. Unbleached linen, pale wooden bedside tables and a midcentury-inspired rattan chair add elements of natural texture to the room.
Stone Groove
Refaced with white paint, this stone wall now boasts sophisticated texture without overwhelming the master bedroom. Leanne Ford emphasized the space’s elegant minimalism by reaching for understated accessories: midcentury reading lamps perch on diminutive nightstands, and a single black-and-white photo leans behind the headboard.
New Traditions
Erin and Ben Napier joined forces to present their clients with a master bedroom full of heirlooms-to-be: Erin chose the side tables, lamps, artwork and accent chair, and Ben and his younger brother built the headboard, bed frame and bench seat from scratch.
Crisp and Traditional
Erin Napier honored this home’s history by peeling back dated renovations to reveal its classic character. A once-concealed vanity is now a one-of-a-kind feature in the space, and period-appropriate embellishments like silhouettes, botanical prints and a stately iron bedstead are both decorative and evocative.
High Contrast
Alison Victoria gave this Chicago penthouse the black-tie treatment for Windy City Rehab by framing snow-white linens with a crisp feature wall, then studding the bed’s nightstands with gleaming gold-shaded table lamps. An abstract canvas-as-headboard completes the metropolitan look.
Reclaimed Canopy
In Brothers Take New Orleans , Drew Scott borrowed lumber from his brother’s side of a New Orleans home to create this showstopping, one-of-a-kind accent wall. He carried the warm, organic tones through the space with an intricate area rug and a barn door that slides aside to reveal a massive walk-in closet.
Going Bold
This is Crescent City luxury: Drew Scott updated traditional tin tile wainscoting with a coat of gleaming black paint, then brought NOLA-style drama to this bedroom with a jade green loveseat, geode-inspired wall art and a trio of gleaming mirrors.
Advanced Geometry
Alison Victoria made the most of itsy-bitsy windows in her Rock the Block master bedroom by framing them with traditional molding, then creating new silhouettes with metallic lamps and floating nightstands.
Going Green
Jasmine Roth’s Rock the Block bedroom is a jungle of plants — we count at least five — and beautifully weathered wood with paint that resembles verdigris. You heard it here first, container gardeners: master suites are the new front porches.
Marine Layer
Seaside hues wash over Indianapolis in this serene space, where Good Bones ' Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk enveloped a bedroom in crystalline coastal blues. A sinuous side table recalls driftwood, and Karen’s famous fondness for buried treasure (and upcycling) pays off beautifully in a collection of turned legs repurposed as lamps.
Modern Romance
The pastel color story in Mina Starsiak Hawk’s bedroom harmonizes clean, on-trend elements (like the vases on the dresser and the lamps on the nightstands) and more traditional pieces (like the distressed area rug and that downright magnificent upholstered bed). The tough-but-tender vintage initials above the headboard — for Mina and her husband Stephen — are a lovely split between those styles.
Tidal Textiles
Combined with the variegated blue area rug, the dip-dyed linens on this cozy bed create the effect of a wave foaming over the room. Karen and Mina extend their seascape with a larger natural area rug and whisper-thin sheer window treatments.
Fresh Prints
The block-printed and plaid fabrics in this room are all fairly traditional old school, but in combination with one another they’re utterly of-the-moment. Karen and Mina accent their crisp black-and-white palette with chic leather pillows and a rich, dark stain on the floor.
Emerald Pretty
Boise Boys “design ninja” Luke Caldwell passed over basic black and punctuated this masculine bedroom with gemstone greens. Anyone can source a blanket and velvet throw pillows in those shades, but Luke managed to find a malachite-colored table fan; now that’s a pro at work.
Luxury Lodge
Rustic stained panels contrast with refined, almost Art-Deco-inspired furniture in this master bedroom, where Luke Caldwell selected accessories that are both woodsy (like the heather grey area rug) and urban (like the pair of pendant lights and the metallic chargers on the nightstands). Honey-toned flooring, in turn, complements the feature wall without being too matchy-matchy.
Above and Beyond
A beam that might have disappeared into the ceiling is now a major architectural moment in this bedroom, thanks to Luke’s choice of a dramatic, dark stain. The graphic painting above the dresser is a clever reflection of the corner where the feature wall meets its neighbor behind the armchair.
Mountain High
Luke designed an accent wall that celebrates Boise’s topography in a decidedly modern way. Patterns on the area rug and a throw pillow then pick up the shapes of those “peaks,” and the flooring he chose matches their slats.
Grow Big
Remember when we said master bedrooms are the new front porches? Behold this Boise suite, where Luke drew attention to a slim window with spectacularly shaggy philodendrons. Natural woven shades on all four light fixtures emphasize the space’s organic feel.
Desert Rose
Drawing inspiration from this Palm Springs home’s Mediterranean exterior, Lindsey and Eric Bennett of Desert Flippers brought deep, earthy tones into the master bedroom. Rich, textured linens echo the bright tile on the room’s feature wall, and a pair of French doors offer direct access to the expansive pool deck.
A Pop of Paneling
With pieces of trim, a handful of wood screws and a drill, Eric and Lindsey Bennett turned this faceless wall into a classic feature. To balance out the crisp lines in the new molding and a pair of campaign nightstands, they layered the soft gray carpeting with an area rug and chose a bed with a plush upholstered headboard.
Urban Accents
Lindsey and Eric Bennett updated this old-school bungalow by giving the brick walls fresh coats of paint and adding subtle contrast to the ceiling beams. They then added big-city touches: a plush faux-fur area rug, sculptural furnishings and splashy art lend the central California space some serious Hollywood glamour.
Wake-Up Call
There’s no hitting the snooze button in this high-concept guest space, where the Bennetts washed the walls in white and set the bed aflame with eye-popping upholstery and linens. Sculptural lamps and accent pieces complete their high-wire act.
Gray Lady
Joanna Gaines dialed up the romance in this beautiful master suite, where pops of pink preside over an intricate reclaimed mantel, bridal-white and floral linens and a softly whitewashed floor. In lieu of installing an overhead pendant, Jo mounted delicate glass fixtures on either side of the bed.
Pretty in Patterns
In this traditional bedroom, Joanna Gaines limited herself to a single wall accent and let the linens do the talking. The antique gold details on the sheets and throw pillows pair beautifully with the distressed rug she chose to top the space’s custom wood flooring.
His and Hers
For her newlywed clients’ master suite, Joanna Gaines balanced masculine nightstands, antiqued bronze table lamps and a modern-industrial bench with a soaring salvaged headboard and billowing bedclothes. This is the perfect spot for a young couple to dream of their growing family.
Pearls and Scallops
Joanna Gaines reimagined this master bedroom with understatement in mind: the bedding’s whorls of fabric echo both the gentle curves atop the headboard and the soft hue she chose for the walls. Classic white curtains draw back to let the Texas sun spill into the space.
Shifting Out of Neutral
On Property Brothers: Forever Home , Jonathan and Drew breathed life into this once-drab master bedroom with some much-needed texture (a plush area rug, tasseled linens, and a pillow fight’s worth of accessories) and an infusion of summery yellow. Going gray is a classic way to start composing a cozy retreat; the layered and seasonal details build on that foundation.
Blue Note
After a Property Brothers makeover, this Nashville master bedroom is the epitome of cool: a dramatic headboard upholstered all the way from the baseboard to the ceiling functions as a feature wall, engine-red nightstands add a bold pop of color, and a brassy floral pendant swings from the ceiling like statement jewelry. With artistic flourishes like those, who needs a gallery wall?
Modern Oasis
Jonathan Scott echoed the oceanic blues in a modern area rug with marine tones in midcentury-inspired accessories, then let the sun peek through with a bright feature wall. Crisp white linens give this bedroom the feel of a luxury retreat.
Better With Age
Erin Napier placed heritage front and center in this bedroom, where a delicate antique bed belonging to her client’s family foregrounds tradition. The space celebrates resonance rather than contrast: a framed vintage print echoes the blooms on the bedspread, and the warm tones on the well-loved nightstand, the table lamp’s drum shade and the window treatments fade into creamy hues on the wall and ceiling fixture.
New Bohemian
The eclectic elements of this young couple’s bedroom are carefully edited: Erin carries the coral velvet at the end of the bed to the floral pattern on its throw pillows and both the vase on the nightstand and the single, diminutive painting on the wall. The goldenrod drapes, in turn, pair perfectly with the refinished hardwood floor. There’s plenty of detail here, to be sure, but because each piece is a variation on a central theme, quirk doesn’t devolve into clutter.
Labor of Love
When newlyweds Christina and Ant Anstead of Christina on the Coast found their dream home in Newport Beach, California, they wasted no time making it their own. Their spectacular two-story bedroom combines contemporary style (in bespoke details like the lavish light fixture, architectural bed frame and complementary banister, all handcrafted by the man of the house) and unabashed romanticism (their larger-than-life Elvis lyrics are as boldly sentimental as they are).
Retro Revelry
This Desert Flippers master bedroom celebrates inland California’s love affair with all things midcentury-modern via some of the era’s greatest hits: that sinuous bed frame! Those geometric night stands, that atomic table lamp, the Wegner-inspired chair! Black ceiling beams carry the eye through massive, newly installed windows and sliders out to the patio, where Bertoia-style chairs complete the scene.
Cool White
Where better to retreat from triple-digit Palm Springs temperatures than a pale, gleaming oasis like this? Lindsey and Eric Bennett added interest to their mostly-monochrome space with vintage blue glass, a matching blue bolster pillow and a playful wall treatment.
Man About Town
Leanne Ford had the inside scoop on how to tailor this Pittsburgh bedroom to its owner’s tastes: it happens to be her brother Steve’s sanctuary. She paired concrete finishes on the floor and walls with industrial furnishings and soft textures she knew he’d love.
White on White
Leanne Ford unified three spaces in this master suite — a sleeping area, a spot to sit and a massive spa bathroom — with pale flooring and a generous supply of her beloved creamy white paint. Awash in dreamy new hues, the midcentury space is now thoroughly modern.
Vegas Glam
An unabashed fan of her adopted hometown’s bold style, Aubrey Marunde of Flip or Flop Vegas reimagined this bedroom with mirrored furniture, polished chrome and ruffles worthy of a Vegas showgirl. One should go big when one goes home, no?
Natural Wonder
Ken and Anita Corsini of Flip or Flop Atlanta conduct a symphony of earth tones in this space, where shades of cream, cotton and sand cocoon the bed. High contrast has its place, to be sure, but in this Atlanta bedroom, harmony reigns supreme.
Into the Blue
Behold the design genius of Flipping Virgins ' Egypt Sherrod: In one bold swoop (in this case, choosing an upholstered teal platform bed and pairing it with a lemon-yellow quilt), she made this otherwise-unassuming room unforgettable.
Eastern Elegance
Flip or Flop 's Christina El Moussa looked across the Pacific to draw inspiration for this Anaheim, California, bedroom, where graphic chrysanthemums adorn wall panels and bed linens. Sculptural, ebonized nightstands and tall, smoked-glass table lamps add to the space’s exotic feel.
Adult Coloring
This adult space’s details reveal a playful side: Christina El Moussa paired modern shelving and clean white window treatments with candy-colored tchotchkes and splashes of yellow on throw pillows and a blanket. Why shouldn’t a bedroom get cozy in the space between functional and fun?
